FAQs

What is Pelvic Floor Physio?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on assessing and treating the muscles, joints, and tissues of the pelvis. It can help with bladder and bowel leakage, pelvic pain, prolapse symptoms, pregnancy-related discomfort, and postnatal recovery. Treatment is tailored to your individual symptoms and goals and may include exercise, manual therapy, education, and lifestyle advice.

What happens at my first appointment at pelvic floor physiotherapy?

Your first appointment includes a detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history, and goals. This is followed by a physical assessment, which may include posture, movement, and pelvic floor muscle testing if appropriate. Any internal examination is only offered with your full consent and can be declined at any time. You will leave with a clear plan and personalised exercises.

Will I need an internal exam?

An internal examination is sometimes helpful for assessing pelvic floor muscle function, but it is never compulsory. It will only be discussed if clinically appropriate, and you are always in control. Your comfort, privacy, and consent are prioritised at every stage.

How long does pelvic floor physiotherapy take to work?

Everyone’s recovery is different. Some people notice improvements within a few sessions, while others need longer-term support. Progress depends on your symptoms, goals, and consistency with exercises. Your treatment plan will be reviewed regularly and adapted as needed.

Which of the services is most appropriate for me?

Please see the individual sections for each service offered;

Women's Health Physiotherapy

Pregnancy Physiotherapy

Mummy MOT

Furthermore, in the booking sections I have listed the conditions that are more relevant to that service, and how long the appointment will last. If you have any questions contact me via email, the enquiry form, or book a free discovery call, and I can answer any questions

What do I need to bring for the appointments?

Just bring yourself and clothes you feel comfortable moving around in.

I am struggling for child care, can I bring my baby with me?

Yes of course you can bring plus ones, the treatment room is big enough for us and a pram.

I can only afford a one off service, I would really like to be seen but can't commit to any follow ups at present?

This is absolutely fine, please let me know what your preference is in terms of physiotherapy follow up. I am here for as much or as little support as needed in your journey.

Whilst follow up can be great for keeping you accountable, and ensuring you are progressing well towards your goals, I will also ensure to give you as much information as you need on the initial assessment for self management if needed.
