Mummy MOT™ & Postnatal Physiotherapy Assessment in Edinburgh
The Mummy MOT™ is a comprehensive postnatal physiotherapy assessment for all new mums, whether you have had a vaginal birth or a caesarean section.
Every pregnancy and birth places significant demands on your body. Your core and pelvic floor muscles work hard throughout this time, and it is completely normal for them to feel weaker, less coordinated, or uncomfortable afterwards.
I often describe pregnancy and childbirth as similar to a sporting injury — your body has been through a major physical event and deserves time, understanding, and the right rehabilitation to recover well.
The reassuring news is that the core and pelvic floor respond extremely well to tailored exercises and support. With the right guidance, most women can rebuild strength, confidence, and comfort in daily life and exercise.
Whether you are six weeks postpartum or many years after having children, it is never too late to invest in your recovery. We advise to have had your 6-8 week GP check before your Mummy MOT assessment!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an internal assessment?
An internal examination may be helpful in some cases, but it is never compulsory. It is only offered when appropriate and always with your full consent. You are welcome to decline at any time.
Is pelvic floor physiotherapy embarrassing?
Many women feel nervous before their first appointment — this is completely normal. My role is to make you feel comfortable, respected, and supported throughout your care.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly without a GP referral.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your symptoms and goals. Some women benefit from one or two sessions, while others may need a short course of treatment. We will discuss this together after your assessment.
Can pelvic floor physiotherapy help years after having a baby?
Yes. It is never too late to improve pelvic floor function, even if symptoms have been present for many years.
