Women’s Health & Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Edinburgh

Women’s health and pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on the assessment and treatment of conditions affecting the pelvic floor, core, and surrounding muscles.

These issues are common — but they are not something you have to live with.

At Mums & More Physiotherapy, I provide specialist, confidential care to support you with pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, and long-term pelvic health concerns, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your body.

How I Can Help

You may benefit from women’s health physiotherapy if you experience:

  • Bladder or bowel leakage

  • Pelvic pain or discomfort

  • Heaviness or prolapse symptoms

  • Pain during intimacy

  • Difficulty activating or relaxing your pelvic floor

  • Ongoing symptoms after pregnancy or childbirth

  • Changes in pelvic health during menopause

  • Core weakness or abdominal separation

If any of these affect your daily life, support is available.

What Your Appointment Involves

Your appointment begins with a relaxed, confidential discussion about your symptoms, medical history, and goals.

Your assessment may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis

  • Core and breathing assessment

  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment (external and/or internal where appropriate)

Any internal examination is only offered with your full consent and can be declined at any time.

Following your assessment, you will receive:

  • A personalised treatment plan

  • Tailored exercises

  • Practical lifestyle advice

  • Ongoing support and review

My aim is to help you understand your body and feel confident managing your symptoms.

My Approach

I take a whole-body, evidence-based approach to pelvic health.

Rather than focusing on one area in isolation, I consider how your posture, breathing, strength, and daily activities influence your symptoms.

Appointments are unhurried, supportive, and tailored to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an internal examination?

An internal examination may be helpful in some cases, but it is never compulsory. It is only offered when appropriate and always with your full consent. You are welcome to decline at any time.

Is pelvic floor physiotherapy embarrassing?

Many women feel nervous before their first appointment — this is completely normal. My role is to make you feel comfortable, respected, and supported throughout your care.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly without a GP referral.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your symptoms and goals. Some women benefit from one or two sessions, while others may need a short course of treatment. We will discuss this together after your assessment.

Can pelvic floor physiotherapy help years after having a baby?

Yes. It is never too late to improve pelvic floor function, even if symptoms have been present for many years.

Will I be given exercises to do at home?

Yes. You will receive clear, realistic exercises and advice to support your progress between appointments.
