Women's Health Physiotherapy

Our Women's Health Physiotherapy assessment starts with a dedicated time to discuss any concerns you may have about your pelvic floor function. I will ask detailed questions about bladder and bowel function and any input you’ve received from urology, gynaecology, gastroenterology, or colorectal services, and any other past medical history that may be relevant.

I am accustomed to treating these subjects with sensitivity, but I appreciate some of the above topics may be difficult to talk about and if so please let me know and we can work out a way to communicate that feels comfortable for you!

This service is particularly helpful for managing conditions such as;

  •  Pelvic organ prolapse,

  • Stress urinary incontinence,

  • Overactive bladder,

  • Faecal incontinence,

  • Pelvic pain, or discomfort during intimacy (with sex or orgasm).

As part of the assessment, I offer an examination of the pelvic floor muscles through an internal exam and perform a hip joint assessment to evaluate the muscles that work in conjunction with the pelvic floor.

Following this, I will develop a personalized rehabilitation program for your specific concerns.

Treatment can include:

  • Graded exercises for the hip muscles & core strengthening (to manage intra-abdominal pressure),

  • Pelvic floor strengthening and endurance,

  • Bladder training & fluid intake guidance

  • Internal manual therapy, and advice on self-management for pelvic pain and dyspareunia (painful sex).
